Abstract
The authors make a systematic study of inclusive pi + and pi -production in collisions of 4He, protons and neutrons on a series of nuclei. The different relative production of pi - and pi + is a direct measure of the difference between proton and neutron densities in the nucleus. Deviations from simple predictions will provide valuable information on the production mechanisms. Keywords
