Abstract
N and sugar excretions were measured in treated and untreated diabetics on protein-low diets. Excretion of glucose in amts. greater than would be predicted on the basis of glyconeogenesis from protein indicated that this sugar was largely dietary and not newly formed. The primary disturbance in diabetes is evidently a partial failure in disintegration of the glucose molecule, and glyconeogenesis is a result and not primarily a cause of diabetes.
