Abstract
Serial passage of duck hepatitis virus in chicken embryos was carried in two lines for 35 and 60 passages in an effort to evaluate the effects of the passage on the infectivity of the virus for both chicken embryos and ducklings. The passaged virus became non-pathogenic for newly-hatched ducklings at the 20th and 26th passages. The virus titer in chicken embryos declined in the first two passages but increased gradually from the 3rd to the 10th passages. There was no significant increase in virus titer in subsequent passages. This observation holds true for both of the passage lines. In passage line 1, starting from the 6th passage, all inoculated embryos had lesions. Embryo mortality and the occurrence of a characteristic greenish discoloration on candling were irregular. The possible usefulness of the two non-pathogenic virus strains has been suggested. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
