Abstract
The population of diabetics in the United States is now over ten million and is increasing at a rate of 6% per year. Pedal complications are a well known factor contributing to the morbidity of the disease. A random survey of 48 diabetic patients was performed in the general medicine clinics at Hines Veterans Administration Hospital. Fifty percent of all patients examined presented vasculopathy and neuropathy together with some type of foot deformity. These patients must be considered at risk for greater morbidity or amputation. A prospective study evaluating the benefits of preventive foot care for this risk group is indicated. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
