Abstract
To the Editor: Ahlquist et al. (May 30 issue)1 reported on the use of HemoQuant as a technique for improving occult-blood testing for the detection of colorectal cancer. In an accompanying editorial,2 Peterson and Fordtran pointed to a number of shortcomings in the study. They also stated that the whole concept of testing for occult blood in stool as part of a screening program is "controversial and as yet unproved." This cautious statement is in contrast to the widespread use of the Hemoccult test and the general judgment in the literature. We have recently surveyed all the original international literature . . .Keywords
