Abstract
Offered first is a synoptic history of the Gerontological Society's first forty years. Then emnto ogica ocietyo menca compared are intellectual and organizational developments affecting the field of inquiry with trends in four other interdisciplinary natural and social sciences. Members of GSA are urged to place higher emphasis on preserving archival material so that a more complete understanding of the organization's history can be reconstructed.
