Abstract
The synthesis of recent microbiostratigraphic data is used to define the stratigraphic value of the main Early and Mid-Cretaceous Mesogean Orbitolinids and to propose a biozonation which can be entirely or partially applied to most of the circum-Mediterranean region. A combination of maps showing the geographical distribution of these benthic foraminifers with those of suggested paleoreconstructions of this area helps to single out the paleogeographic factor among the host of factors which limit their distribution. Thus it is possible to recognize orbitolinid provinces linked either to the European plate or to the African plate and its Italian and Arabian promontories. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
