Excitation Cross Sections of Alkali-Metal Atoms Colliding with Slow Electrons

Abstract

A previously developed model is extended to the case of excitation of the alkali metals (Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs) by electron impact. The results of the cross-section calculations to transitions n₀s → n₀p (n₀s being the ground state) are compared with experimental values. Numerical results concerning some other transitions are given in tabular form.
