Abstract
A semi-empirical formula is proposed for the mass absorption coefficient for X-rays. It is based on the elementary photo-absorption theory and is valid from 1 AA to the wavelength of the K absorption edge of the absorber. Comparisons are made with the theoretical values of the absorption coefficient and with Leroux's formula (1962).Keywords
