House Officers' Knowledge of Geriatric Health Policy: Are the Gatekeepers Learning the Rules?

Abstract
To examine knowledge of geriatric health policies a 20-question true or false quiz was distributed to 541 physicians training in medicine, surgery, and psychiatry. Only 154 (28.5%) were returned, reflecting an unknown degree of disinterest in geriatrics. Among the respondents there was a widespread lack of knowledge that could interfere with physicians' ability to use the health care system appropriately for patients' benefit and to function effectively as a gatekeeper to health care utilization.
