Abstract
A cytogenetic study has been made from leukocyte cultures of the peripheral blood of 10 males and 16 females of L·emur catta, an endemic species of Madagascar. The animals had been provided from different parts of Madagascar. All the animals have been found to possess 56 chromosomes; yet females have four metacentric chromosomes and males only three. This suggests that the X chromosome of L·emur catta is a metacentric chromosome. The result is compared with previous studies. Keywords
