WING TYPE VORTEX GENERATORS FOR HEAT TRANSFER ENHANCEMENT

Abstract
Local heat transfer coefficients and friction coefficients have been measured and compared for flows in channels with different built-in vortex generator geometries in the Reynolds number range 1360 to 2270. Delta wings, rectangular wings and winglets have been punched out from the channel wall as vortex generators. The measurements show impressive enhancements of heat transfer coefficients with modest increases in friction coefficients. All investigated types of vortex generators produce heat transfer enhancement. The delta wing shows by far the best performance of all configurations. The increase in friction factor appears to be proportional to the projected cross flow area for all geometries.
