An evaluation of the amebicidal properties of metronidazole

Abstract

Summary Twenty patients with amebic ulcerative proctitis were treated with metronidazole. The rate of cure was 90 per cent. Metronidazole caused slight side-effects in 15 per cent of the patients. The authors believe that the optimal treatment schedule is 800 mg three times a day for 20 days.
