Abstract
The Fresnel–Kirchhoff theory is used to derive formulas which permit rapid calculation by personal computer of the radial distribution of irradiance in a Fresnel diffraction pattern behind a circular aperture illuminated by a plane wave. An experiment to measure the radial distribution of irradiance is described. The experimental results are in good, but not complete, agreement with the theory. Keywords
