Abstract
EDITOR—The question of whether unpasteurised (“green top”) cows' milk should be banned from retail sale in England and Wales, as it is in Scotland, is being debated. We report microbiological results on 1097 samples of unpasteurised milk bought from 242 retail outlets in England and Wales between May 1996 and July 1997. The study was to determine the frequency of contamination with potential pathogens and whether statutory tests reflected the presence of these pathogens.
