Abstract
DEPRESSION IN childhood and adolescence is prevalent, frequently recurrent, and highly impairing. Depressive disorders occur in approximately 2% of primary school–aged children and 4% to 8% of adolescents.1-5 Nearly half (45%) of adolescents with major depression relapse in young adulthood.6 Children and adolescents with depression are also at increased risk for suicide,7 substance use disorders,8 early pregnancy, poor academic performance, and impaired psychosocial functioning.9Keywords
