Arginine in poultry nutrition

Abstract
A procedure has been described for the assay of the arginase activity of chick kidney and liver homogenates. The kinetic properties of the enzyme have been examined the optimum pH is around 10, a Km value of 7.7 x 10-3 [image] has been found, and the effects of cofactor concentration and pre-incubation have been examined in some detail. There was a considerable arginase activity in preparations of chick kidney: there was a measurable activity in the liver but it was much less than that of rat liver. It was not possible to demonstrate any difference in chick kidney arginase activity in relation to the age of the bird or arginine content of the diet.
