Abstract
A description has been given of an autosomal, recessive mutation in the turkey result ing inabnormal down and plumage. Normal feather webbing was absent in the adult mutant. Instead, the individual feathers appeared to have short thick hairs attached to the rachis. Since the down plumules were also extremely modified and gave the ap pearance of coarse hair, the name “hairy” is suggested for this condition. The “hairy” gene appeared to have no deleterious effects on embryonic development and hatchability, but under commercial growing conditions “hairy” turkeys showed a reduced viability. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
