Use of therapeutic play in the ambulatory pediatric hematology clinic

Abstract
Irrespective of a child's age, play is a component of every child's optimal development. In addition to the pure enjoyment that play provides, it serves as a safe medium of expression for feelings and concerns that a child may have. The child who is a patient in the hematology clinic is often confronted with many new and frequently disturbing experiences. The nurse in the hematology clinic is in an ideal position to offer therapeutic play to the children. Specific nursing interventions that are based on the developmental stage of the child are suggested to the reader.
