Abstract
Malaysia has an ambitious economic vision: it has set its sights on joining the ranks of the newly industrializing economies (NIEs). It hopes to achieve this goal within the next decade, by building up an advanced export-oriented manufacturing structure alongside a vibrant agriculture sector.
