Optically triggered polarisation bistable switching in laser diodes with external cavities

Abstract

The new pitchfork bifurcation-like polarisation bistability in laser diodes has been observed experimentally by using the two-armed polarisation-selective external cavity configuration. All-optical flipflop operation has been successfully demonstrated by using both TE and TM trigger inputs.
