Abstract
The change, during storage, in concentration of dissolved inorganic, dissolved organic, and particulate phosphorus, and nitrate, nitrite, and ammonia in estuarine water was examined in samples that were refrigerated and in samples which were quick-frozen. One half of each set of samples was pretreated with 0.7% v/v chloroform. At all times of the year quick-freezing alone stabilized nutrient concentrations, whereas freezing with chloroform resulted, at times, in significant changes in the nutrient levels. Refrigeration never stabilized all nutrient levels regardless of the presence or absence of chloroform.
