Impact Spectra and Intensities for High-Speed Mechanisms

Abstract
The local and path-spectra of the impacts between the socket and pin are obtained. It is shown that the dominant impacts occur at only one of the dead points. The other shows a profusion of impacts at a lower intensity-level. An index for measuring the severity of the impacts in the socket is introduced. The effects of the variation of clearance, driving speed, and friction are studied. Resonant-impact-driving speeds and tuned operating points are discussed. Design recommendations are included throughout.
