Magnetic resonance and quadrupole coupling in vanadium–oxygen compounds

Abstract
51V nuclear magnetic resonance has been observed in M(VO3) where M = Li, Na, K, Cs, Ba, and Ca. Vanadium magnetic resonance has also been observed in Na3VO4, KVO31H2O, and KVO3–glass. The 23Na has been observed in the sodium salts and 7Li in LiVO3. A graphical technique has been developed which allows the determination of the quadrupole coupling, the asymmetry parameter in the electric field gradient, and the chemical shift parameters and avoids the necessity of computer fits to the line shape. A simple model, using only nearest-neighbor interactions, is successful in illustrating the sensitive dependence of the asymmetry parameter on crystal structure parameters.
