Abstract
Pulse-width modulation schemes are important for the improvement of supply power factor and AC supply waveform. A control circuit with an equal-pulse-width modula-tion scheme is developed, The circuit is used to control a simple and versatile AC-DC converter developed by Kataoka et al. (1979). The control gating pulses are selected in such a way that the converter does not require precharging of the commutation capacitor when starting the converter initially. This feature was not reported by Kataoka et al. The converter, which uses few components, can be used for both rectification and inversion. Oscillograms demonstrate the working of the converter. Keywords
