Acid-Base Equilibria in Aqueous Solutions of Tetracycline Hydrochloride.

Abstract
A UV spectral examination of tetracycline hydrochloride aqueous solution indicated the existence of monoprotonated, neutral, anionic, dianionic and trianionic species across the pH 1-14 range. These findings were supported by molecular orbital, polarographic and biological absorption studies and polarography was further used to study the nature of the complex formed between tetracycline, Ca ions and barbitone.
