Some responses to agronomic treatments of different genotypes of bulb onions,Allium cepaL.

Abstract
Different bulb onion genotypes were grown under a range of agronomic treatments in a series of field trials. The effects of time of sowing and harvest, density and season and their interactions with genotype were determined with respect to yield, bulb shape, bulb marketability and storage qualities. The results have indicated the relative effects of the genotypes and the agronomic treatments on each of the characters. In particular, plant density was shown to have a major effect on several characters, and this must be taken into account when devising selection procedures to discriminate between genotypes in bulb onion breeding programmes.
