Abstract
A formalism for the optimisation of the field distribution and the inductivity of a magnet coil is presented. For this purpose, characteristic quantities are defined which depend on the shape but not on the size of the coil. The range of the geometric parameters of a notch-coil magnet suitable for typical NMR-field-cycling experiments are given. Keywords
