Abstract
A four‐week dietary diary study was conducted on the remote Isle of Westray in 1979. Intakes of major nutrients were compared with figures for the rest of Scotland and intakes of an additional seven dietary constituents were compared with those for the British mainland. The pattern of the diet, with respect to major food groups, was also evaluated. It was concluded that the nutritional quality of the diet of this island population was very similar to that in Scotland and in Great Britain as a whole. Some differences in eating habits have been discussed. Keywords
