Abstract
A simple description of oblique turbulent jets in a uniform cross‐flow is achieved by following the motion of the jet in an oblique coordinate system, which moves with the crossflow. In the moving coordinate system, the ambient is stationary and the motion of the turbulent jet is described by a line‐impulse model. The widths and the path of the jet are determined from a series of top‐ and side‐view photographs. The added‐mass coefficient and the turbulent entrainment coefficient, each evaluated from independent sets of experimental data, are found to be consistent with the line‐impulse formulation and experimental data of related turbulent shear flows. Keywords
