Abstract
The production of free electron-positron pairs in relativistic heavy-ion collisions is investigated within first-order time-dependent perturbation theory. An analytic expression for the differential pair-production cross section is obtained by employing Furry-Sommerfeld-Maue wave functions for the description of continuum states in the external field of the target nucleus. The angular distributions of electrons and positrons and cross sections are calculated and compared with previous results. Keywords
