Abstract
The infrared absorption spectra of polycrystalline films of N2O4 at —180° have been examined in the region from 3500 to 400 cm—1 and found to be entirely consistent with the reported x‐ray crystal structure. Four of the five infrared active fundamentals have been observed and values for three of the infrared inactive fundamentals, in good agreement with reported Raman data, have been inferred from combination bands. Other combinations indicate at least two torsional lattice modes in the range of 18 to 30 cm—1. Several isotopic frequencies were also identified in the spectrum of solid N2O4 containing about 34.5 atom % of N15.Keywords
