SYNDROME CHARACTERIZED BY GALACTORRHEA, AMENORRHEA AND LOW URINARY FSH: COMPARISON WITH ACROMEGALY AND NORMAL LACTATION*†

Abstract
A syndrome is descr. characterized by galactorrhea, amenorrhea, and decreased urinary follicle stimulating hormone. The clinical findings in 15 cases are summarized. These include normal serum P, absence of acromegalic features, tendency to obesity, mild hirsutism, and 17-ketosteroid excretion in upper range of normal. Of the 15 patients, 7 had evidence of pituitary tumor; operation in 2 disclosed chromophobe adenoma. It is hypothesized that all had hyperpituitarism with respect to pro-lactin production. Urinary follicle stimulating hormone excretion in 15 normal lactating mothers, 14 of whom had amenorrhea, was found to be normal or slightly increased.
