Abstract
The Euler-Lagrange equation for an impurity interacting with an inhomogeneous fluid is derived and applied to a description of the polarized hydrogen system, , , and on the surface of liquid . We find well-defined, strongly bound physisorbed states for , and and a weakly bound physisorbed state for .
