Abstract
In this paper, the capability of proportional fair (P-FR) packet scheduling for WCDMA/HSDPA is studied considering inherent limitations and system conditions. Specifically, issues of link adaptation dynamic range, power and code resources, convergence settings, signaling overhead, and code multiplexing are studied. Although the P-FR method may ideally offer around 100% capacity gain compared to blind scheduling, this gain largely depends on the operating conditions.
