Abstract
The National Institute on Aging Teaching Nursing Home (TNH) Program was devised to bridge the gap between the acute medical and long-term care systems. These TNHs would bring to long-term care research and training activities similar to those in teaching hospitals and would thus develop an interface between research and practice. Conflicting goals, orientations, organizations, value systems, and practices are discussed, as well as outcomes to date of one program. The TNH has become a potent force, both intrainstitutionally and interinstitutionally.
