Villous lesions of the colon

Abstract
Patients with colonoscopically diagnosed villous lesions are reported with rectal bleeding, diarrhea and asymptomatic conditions. Surgical therapy is not recommended in cases confirmed to be benign by histopathological biopsies. Conservative therapeutic approaches to benign lesions are discussed including colonoscopic snare and transanal excision. Technical surgical procedures for diagnosed invasive carcinoma in situ are described along with common complications following surgery such as hemorrhage, infection, bowel obstruction and urinary retention.
