Stroke/CHD screening in general practice

Abstract
The purpose of this article is to discuss how general practice can help achieve Department of Health targets for reducing coronary heart disease (CHD) and stroke (1) (Table 1), which cause one in three deaths in the UK and account for6.9 per cent of NHS expenditure. First, however, I will review the situation which existed before The Health of the Nationwas published, and discuss the possible reasons for change.
