Abstract
In the questionnaire circulated by The Institute of Physics in January, members were asked to supply anonymous information on their grade of membership, sex, age, qualifications in science and technology, the class and the field of their employment, the type of their work and the total income received from their main occupation (rate of annual salary on 1 January 1974) and any secondary occupations (total sums received during 1973). The data extracted from the 6986 forms returned take up 1373 pages of computer printout.
