Abstract
The stress corrosion cracking (SCC) behavior of the AlLi Alloy 8090 was evaluated using the slow strain rate technique. The alloy was exposed to 0.5 M NaCl under potentiostatic conditions. A critical potential was found below which Alloy 8090 was resistant to SCC and above which Alloy 8090 was highly susceptible to SCC. The critical potential controls the propagation of cracks and not the initiation. Material in the underaged, peak-aged, and overaged conditions were equally susceptible to SCC.Keywords
