Abstract
The temperature dependence of the positron annihilation peak coincidence rate has been measured in bcc and fcc stainless steels. Trapping model analysis of the data shows that the vacancy formation energies in the bcc stainless steels are about 20% lower than those in the fcc stainless steels. The vacancy formation energies calculated from current theoretical models are about 10–15% larger than those determined experimentally. Keywords
