Dislocation Analysis of Crack Lamellae

Abstract
A detailed numerical analysis has been carried out with respect to the equilibrium configuration of both shear and tensile crack lamellae under varying applied stresses. The cracks were assumed to consist of circular concentric glide and prismatic dislocation loops, respectively. Among other things, it was found that under a given applied stress, circular cracks are larger in size than straight cracks and that circular tensile cracks are greater in size and energy than circular shear cracks. In addition, it is shown that the Griffith criterion for crack growth simply corresponds to specifying the lowest energy for a given arrangement and number of dislocation loops.This publication has 9 references indexed in Scilit:
