Abstract
CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE is the leading cause of mortality in the United States, accounting for more than 40% of all deaths.1 The slowing during the last 2 decades of the historic rise in death rates from coronary heart disease (CHD) is likely due to improvements in modifiable risk factors in the general population.2 More widespread adoption of a healthy diet and lifestyle has the potential to yield dramatic decreases in the incidence of CHD and its associated morbidity, mortality, and economic burden.3 A critical prerequisite for such an improvement is increased awareness of the health benefits of risk factor modification. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
