Abstract
The technology of erasable magneto-optic write-read-write bit-by-bit stores has reached a level where operational systems can be designed. In particular, the essential components such as erasable magneto-optic storage materials and light deflectors are well developed. The paper summarizes the function and state of the art of a memory concept for the capacity range of 107–108 bits, based on non-mechanical digital light deflection for fast random access (100 μs to blocks of 1000 bits) and beam multiplexing techniques. The system features are discussed as well as experimental results obtained at an operational memory. Keywords
