Abstract
Electron microscopic examination of the prostatic epithelium of castrated rats with or without subsequent administration of testosterone led to the following results. In rats castrated and left untreated for a month, the epithelial cells were evidently atrophied, the electron density of the cytoplasm was lowered, the endoplasmic reticulum was faded out, and the mitochondria were reduced in size. When such rats a month after castration were given 1-10 [mu]g of testosterone, no perceptible finding of recovery from the changes was obtained, but after 100 [mu]g, reappearance of endoplasmic reticulum was obvious, mitochondria were re-enlarged and their internal structure was again definitely observable.
