Light Distribution in the Image of an Incoherently Illuminated Edge

Abstract
The image of an incoherently illuminated edge is shown to have a simple structure with no diffraction fringes for any state of correction of the imaging system. The light distribution in the defocused image is calculated and numerical results are given. A comparison is made with the predictions of geometrical optics.Keywords
