Abstract
Molecular beams of the metastable a 4Π state of NO are produced by electron impact excitation. The average dipole moment of the a 4Π vibrational distribution is determined to be μ=0.20(2)D by quantitative analysis of the beam focused by an electrostaticquadrupole lens. Analysis of the vibrational population produced by the excitation process indicates that the electric dipole moment of the v=3 level of a 4Π NO is μ=0.20(4)D.Keywords
