Abstract
The magnetic susceptibility of liquid metals and their alloys is reviewed and discussed in terms of current theories. For liquid simple metals the susceptibility is interpreted in terms of the free‐electron model. The magnetic properties of transition and rare earth metals can be explained by taking into account the itinerant d‐electrons and the localized f‐electrons, respectively. The present state of the magnetic properties of non‐metallic fluids having metallic constituents is reported. In such systems the magnetic susceptibility gives information on the pseudogap or helps to elucidate the ionic character. Keywords
