Abstract
The reaction of dihalocarbenes with various 1-sila and 1-germacyclopent-3-enes leads to corresponding 6,6-dihalogeno-3-sila and 3-germabicyclo [3.1.0] hexanes. The thermal instability of these bridged compounds is dependent upon the heteroatom Si or Ge, its substituents and the chosen halogen. Cyclic and linear dienes of silicon and germanium are produced in the decomposition process. Keywords
