Precipitation Patterns of Normal and Pathologic Blood Sera with Cationic Detergents

Abstract
Human blood serum forms precipitates upon the addition of Bradosol or other cationic detergents, depending on the concn. of the various protein constituents. Under these circumstances certain pathologic sera characterized by disturbances in their protein content show precipitation patterns different from those obtained with normal sera. Certain pathological serum constituents such as bile salts prevent this precipitation. The clinical implications of the variations in the precipitation pattern of blood serum and their possible diagnostic value are discussed.
